Got a hangover? Start by sipping (not chugging like you did last night) water. The alcohol dehydrates you and contributes to that throbbing headache. Gently replenishing the fluids (sans alcohol) can help get you back onto those (dancing) feet in no time! Forget the “tail of the dog who bit you.” Starting the day with a cocktail is really not going to help flush your system of the toxins. With that said, the vegetable content in a Bloody Mary will help to slowly give back some nutrients that have been depleted by the celebratory binge. Just remember, whatever you take in beit black coffee or coke or the tail, sip…sip as you eat that Egg McMuffin and recover.
In the meanwhile, even if you’re not a resolution setting sort of guy, you may want to download our FREE pages to help you organize your thoughts and prioritize your values. The forms are free as printable downloads, and are also included in the back pages (appendix) of Escaping the Chrysalis: Tools for Transformation into Divine Wholeness (to be released very soon!).

Today, when I opened my email account, I found this lovely comment/poem forwarded from YouTube to my in box:
“@ParisDAglion Don’t think of him as gone away his Journey’s just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years. Think of how he must be wishing that we could know today…… how nothing but our saddness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched… for nothing loved is never lost and he was loved so much.”
My heart at once opened up to that raw but beautiful memory of pure love. This comment comes from a complete stranger who read a comment I had made on his post of R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts video. This stranger learned of some person pain I had experienced due to the loss of a loved one. The common thread is that stranger too had lost someone close. We share a deep, although personally separate timeless pain. That one short kind gesture endlessly links my heart to a stranger.
I have long adored Anais Nin. And she was decidedly in my mindset when she said, “My ideas usually come not at my desk writing but in the midst of living.” I did not sit at my desk today and contemplate writing about the kindness of a stranger. Life brought me the fodder and altered my brain track. You never know what form the muse will take. Something so small as kind words from a kindred stranger set the stage today for this blog. It is not a subject of which I had planned to ever write. Yet here we are flowing with the universal energies of the moment. The energies quickly shifted from a smooth laid-back Sunday morning blog to a heartfelt thank you for the reminder that there is still much good in this world. Sweet shared sorrow grounds us at an ancient primal rooted human level sans any degree of artificiality. There is nothing inauthentic in the pain/love that remains after losing a loved one. What remains is strictly the purest, most authentic emotion and experience of undiluted love. How blessed we are to have experienced that level of such a wondrous force. When death leaves a calling card, all else is stripped away. We are never more fully aligned with our whole/gestalt nature.
My wish today is that in time you all experience the depth of pain and love associated with this level of attachment. (And we all will, eventually.) When your heart opens up to the purity of the rawness, you will be blessed with an understanding and wisdom that is unobtainable any other way. Love is all that remains when the pain eases.

My numbers dropped by 1 today. I’m wondering if it is due to content, number of posts, or just due to boredom that someone ‘unliked’ me on FB.
I did write a blog two days ago about past lovers; I suppose it could have been offensive or boring. But relationships, past and present, are a part of our personality. And truly, who hasn’t learned from a past affair of the heart?
Oh well. As I write about interpersonal issues and about the ways in which gestalt techniques can be used to improve the lives of everyone, it occurs to me that many are not ready to leave behind the ways of dysfunction. That’s fine. I’ve had clients contact me years later and tell me how much their lives have improved when the lights came on. Not everyone is ready to change instantaneously; many, however, are more than ready to transform into the full-winged butterfly and fly freely into the future. I applaud all, in either case.
To those who faithfully read this blog, and to those who are not ready, I say only this: You are a valuable, powerful human being; never let anyone dissuade you from that belief.

Star Dust In Your Eye or Hormonal Swing?
Where do moods come from? Whether male or female, are we cyclical according to our hormones, or are we also predisposed to mimicking the cycles of others in our vicinity? Do bio-rhythms play a role in the vacillation between lightest and darkest hues of our personality spectrum? Is there an invisible energy field that affects us as soon as we open our eyes each morning? Is there star-dust sprinkled in our dreams that determines our morning disposition?
Diet Is More Than Good Taste
You may be allergic to basic foods such as wheat, potatoes, gluten, certain fruits or vegetables and dairy, and not even recognize your sensitivities. Foods absolutely have an effect on blood sugar levels, and behaviors, especially when you factor in the preservatives and chemicals that are added to our food supply. In the past 50 years humans have been exposed to more chemicals than all of history prior. Our human immune systems have not kept up with the processing of industrial additives. If you see a child heading for the meds to treat a diagnosis of attention deficit disorder or any other host of so-called maladies, look first to diet and especially to food additives such as artificial food colorings. If you begin to be aware of your own sporadic shifts and inability to concentrate, look first to your diet. Your diet can cause depression and/or elation. It is the same for children, only their systems are more susceptible to misalignment simply due to their smaller stature.
Sweeten the Pot With This Information
It is true that diet effects blood sugars which in turn affects the variables in everyone’s moods. High starchy foods, fruits and sweet vegetables such as corn and carrots, and any foods containing any forms of either processed or natural sugars will elevate us to manic highs, and then drop the bottom out from under us, causing us to come crashing down. As we crash, it is natural to reach again for the quick fix, and that starts the process over again. The perpetual cycle is unhealthy, to say the least, and adding caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol to that mix can be deadly.
Physical Causes of Dispositional Shifts
It is also true that brain abnormalities and head trauma, both physical and emotional, can play heavily into one’s disposition. Ask anyone who has ever suffered a head injury and he or she will likely concur that the injury had a noticeable effect on the stability or instability of behavior and responses. Something as innocuous as lighting can light the fuse of shifting mood instability and fits of anger and/or complete rage.
Identifying & Treating Emotional Causes of Dispositional Shifts
Living with others can be the source of great support and acceptance, or contrarily, may be the source of adversity and stress. By taking a look at our environment as it affects our emotional wellbeing, we are able to better adjust any sources of discomfort that leaks out as a mood swing. It was Socrates who went often to the gazebo to be alone with his whole gestalt self, warts, bad moods, and all. He said this was times “when Saturn came to call.” Apparently Saturn is the sprinkler of gritty sand instead of star-dust, and brings a dark energy when he comes to call.
If you don’t have the sanctuary of a gazebo like Socrates, or a “Room of One’s Own,” as Virginia Woolf claims is necessary, make it a point to find some quiet solitude where you can just be and allow your whole spectrum of moods to work themselves out without getting on others. Encourage others to do the same when, “Saturn comes to call.”
Gestalt Means ‘Whole’ & So Are You
Gestalt means “whole form” and is built on a foundation of integrity, as in, when the links are intact, the chain has integrity. You are whole, and whole means without cracks and chinks in your whole gestalt self. In your gestalt state, you have integrity. Wholeness, without structural damage, is integrity intact. Your moods are all a part of that whole spectrum which is the sum of you. It is an awareness of these parts of your whole gestalt self that builds your character, your integrity. Without awareness of mood shifts, humans tend to react rather than respond or perhaps better even, to go to a place inside to explore the core self. There is no more empowering or rewarding journey than that of going inside to explore the facets and gems of one’s wholeness. Spiritual Gestalt is the ultimate fulfillment where we recognize our universal oneness. There can be no greater mood enhancer than the recognition of our unique place and our purpose in the collective all of everything.

Do you ever ponder your purpose in the universe? Have you thought about how your actions affect the collective consciousness as a whole? Are your thoughts, in your estimation, powerful enough to cause any reaction whatsoever in such a vast and wondrous space? Are you mindful of your place in the time and space continuum? Do you matter in a massive energy force so great that we likely cannot comprehend the magnitude of the greatness? Can you see your value amidst the sea of star beings and star light? Have you ever meditated on your connection to all, as being that energy?
Take a night this week, and go as close to nature as you can get. If you live in a large busy city, take a drive away from the noise and wattage and find a serene space where you can just sit in the universal energies and contemplate the ways in which you have chosen to interact with the flow. Relax into the ethers of infinite intelligence and allow your whole gestalt self to align with the universal force source. You are of the same energy as are the stars. You are aligned and connected with the universal intelligence field. You are whole and gestalt and perfect in your humanness. Just be in your organic state of homeostasis ~balanced, complete. Spend at least fifteen minutes in this natural condition, releasing what does not matter and immersing in the truth that we are all okay, always, even when we are questioning the point of physical human existence on the Earth plane.
Experiencing a stressful, imbalanced, hectic, caffeine-fueled lifestyle is not the way we humans were meant to live. Chasing dollars at jobs we hate, or not having a job to go to each morning is being in a state of imbalance and is courting disease. If you are not doing what you love, at least make it a point to go to nature and debrief often. We are not meant to not live according to our purpose. Following your true north star is empowering and leads to fulfillment. And fulfillment is what we are all designed to attain while we are visiting Earth. As much as possible, live your life according to your natural design. Be aligned body, mind and spirit with divine universal flow and you will find your life ‘works’ much better for you, and for all. Being in balance means you are optimally grounded and secure, and ultimately empowered.
Keep a date with nature as often as possible to help you remember your purpose and your place in the Universe. When you care enough to invest in yourself by taking your self to the source of universal energies, you are affirming your value to the universe. This affirmation is the force that brings more alignment to your life. The result is wellness in mind, body, and spirit. When you are nurturing your whole self, you will automatically begin to see clear improvements in all aspects of your life. And all you have to do is go into nature and simply ‘be’. Fantastique, ehh?

“How I wish that somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of goodwill! In such a place even I would be an ardent patriot.” Albert Einstein
Sometimes it is truly difficult to find inspiring conversation among friends and acquaintances. It is at these times, when small talk doesn’t cut it. The nightly television programming doesn’t do it. The radio DJ lacks the magic. Even those closest to us are not equipped to supply an endless line of intriguing comment to add to our wisdom base. It is at these times, when I most identify with the prayer of Virginia Woolf for “A Room of One’s Own” in which to simply be.
It isn’t meant to hurt anyone else’s feelings that I must have this time to think, to grow, to expel and inhale. In fact, it is my great salvation that I have come to believe that I am not responsible for the feelings of any others. I am responsible enough for myself, and to add an extra burden of being responsible too for the emotional cries of the ones who choose to feel anything at all and blame that on me ~no thank you.
As a gestalt practitioner, I am happy to offer tools for healing old wounds. And I do so with full awareness that I am not responsible for the original wounds. Just because I care does not make me a party to the ways in which others choose to respond or react to the inputs of their lives. This separation is what allows me to provide the tools and show the patron that the reins have always been in front of them, waiting to be picked up and pulled on. I am not a guru. I am not responsible for any life but my own. And I am responsible for all my actions. That is where my responsibility starts and ends.
Do you find yourself being tugged on by others? Are you manipulated by guilt? This is an especially effective ploy of both parents and children. Manipulating thru guilt is at the core of many institutions including religious, governmental, and perhaps especially, familial.
If you notice a tendency to manipulate others using guilt as a tool, ask yourself where you learned the technique. Conscious awareness of one’s own behavior is instrumental in creating personal growth. If you don’t see it, how can you transform it?
If you notice a tendency of others to manipulate you, ask yourself where you learned to be manipulated. Chances are, a supposed care-giver was the role model for your learning experience. Again, conscious awareness of one’s own behavior is instrumental in creating personal growth. If you don’t see it, how can you transform it?
In either case, it is a decision of the self to decide to be manipulated or to manipulate or in both cases, to not manipulate or not be manipulated. Choice is the strength of the human spirit. Choose to be authentic. No manipulation is required in life.
What does this all have to do with having, “A Room of One’s Own” or even better as Albert Einstein said, “an island”? Moving away from unsupportive behaviors such as manipulation, and moving towards those great thinkers who inspire through shared conversations of discussing ideas, possibilities, and fascinating concepts may mean that you have to find a closet in which to think. Your inspiration may come off the pages of great books, or your fulfillment may come from solitary walks in nature. You may not have an immediate circle of profound thinkers in your life. That’s okay. Your mind, body, spirit connection can be filled by yourself, with just a little awareness and dedication to personal enlightenment. Wherever your spiritual fodder comes from, be certain to include it in your daily diet. This is the message of Spiritual Gestalt(TM). Feed your whole self, body, mind, and soul.

Birds have wings because somewhere along the way they intended to fly. You have the life you currently are living because somewhere along the way, however consciously or non consciously, you intended to experience this life of your design.
If your life is not what you had hoped for, stop hoping and start intending. Take a few short but valuable minutes each morning and mindfully set your intention for the day.
Is there something that you would really like to have happen? How much attention do you give to the pursuit of that ‘something’? If you are not setting an intention daily, how could you possibly ever achieve any successes towards a non-set goal?
When you get clear about your intention, the universe has a way of aligning with your intention. People, tools, books, avenues of awareness all open up to support the achieving of the intention which has been intended.
Without intention, time dissolves into the ethers and then you die; your dreams and aspirations are still locked deep inside, unrealized.
What are you waiting for?
The gift of life is that we have the ability to choose. We can choose how to live, where to live, how to respond, who to share our finite time with, and how to spend that same time allottment. With the gift of choice comes a responsibility to choose. If we are not consciously making the choices, then who is? Going through life without consciously making choices, without setting intentions is still a choice. In this case, the choice is made to not make any conscious choices. Either way, there is still a decision being made whether thru apathy, laziness, or inertia.
Living consciously, intending your life to be a certain way places you on the track towards achievement of your dreams, and may lead you to a place of wonderful fulfillment and actualization.
Living unconsciously, not setting intentions, surely does not lead to any level of self-realization, attainment, or success.
The choice, is yours. Exercise your right to choose, to live the life you intend to live.
